Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of Task-Based Learning on students' speaking ability using descriptive text, in class X.8 SMAN 1 Seputih Raman. The researcher used experimental research and quantitative research methods. The population of this research is 280 students of class XI which is divided into 8 classes. The research sample was selected using purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study was class X.8 which amounted to 33 students. Furthermore, the authors used pre-test and post-test as instruments in the study. In the research process, the researcher taught by using Task-Based Learning method in improving students' speaking skill. In addition, the author collected the data of this study by following several steps including giving a pre-test, giving special treatment by retelling stories about the given descriptive text and giving a postrest exam at the end of the study. The data in this study will then be calculated using SPSS version 26. The results of this study show that the average score of the class after being treated using the Task-Based Learning method has increased significantly. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of Task-Based Learning on the speaking skill of class X students of SMAN 1 Seputih Raman in the academic year of writing narrative text of class XI students of SMA N 1 Seputih Raman in the academic year of 2023/2024.
