Abstract

Speaking is an important component of learning English. Without the ability to speak well, it will be difficult to communicate with others. This research was conducted to answer the research problem of whether there is a significant effect of using the CAKE application in improving students' speaking skill. Therefore, it is intended to obtain reliable information about whether there is a significant difference in improving students' speaking skill before and after using the CAKE application in this one group class. This study used a quantitative approach to answer research questions that require numerical data. It is to investigate the effect of CAKE application on students’ speaking skill in English class. This study employed a pre- experimental study with a one – group pre-test post-test design. The data came from one class with a total 30 participants from X IPA 3. The results of this study came from pre- test and post-test from X IPA 3. The post-test was given after the pre-test and treatment finished. After giving treatment to students who were taught before and after using the CAKE application, the effect on students speaking skill was known. To find out whether the results are significant or not, the paired sample t- test was used. The result of calculating the value of t at the significance level of a 0.05. for the significance value (2-tailed) is 0.05, so it can be concluded that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. The results of the study concluded that the ability to speak English for class X IPA 3 SMA Swadhipa Natar increased after being taught using the CAKE application.
