Abstract

Speech that is delivered by political figures is always has its own strategy to achieve their political goal. In order to find out the strategy that they use, Critical Discourse Analysis is applied in conducting the research. Therefore, the researcher applied Van Dijk Critical Discourse Analysis that is focusing on political issues concerning on analyzing the talk of politicians by applying macrostructure and microstructure levels to look for the strategy of speech that is used by Elizabeth Warren. In order to reach the purpose of the research, the researcher’s objective is to find out the speaking style of Elizabeth Warren’s speech at Washington Square Park Rally. Further, In conducting this research, the researcher applied descriptive qualitative method. The result found that Elizabeth Warren uses one topic that represents her speech that is the Working Families Party and applies pronoun strategy, presupposition strategy, lexical choice strategy, and expressions strategy that becomes the most used strategies in her speech.
