Abstract

This study was purposely done to investigate the enlightened martyr archetype in The Lord of The Rings Trilogy. It revelead the martyr archetype through Sam and Frodo’s character, characterization and their sacrifice in the trilogy movie. Therefore, the aims of this researcher is to make the reader can see the part of themselves in a good way and respect the live of others. This study focuses on The Lord of The Rings Trilogy Movie by J.R.R Tolkien. In analayzing the data, the researcher uses Carl Jung’s theory of martyr archetype. A qualitative method was employed in conducting this study since the researcher wanted to have an in-depth analysis of the data. Moreover, this researcher was library research in which the researcher obtained the information by downloading relevant journals, books, and visiting reliable websites. The finding of this current study showed that there are some characteristic and actions from the character which can be assumed as martyr based on the scenes, dialogue, and characterization of the hobbit’s character in the movie.
