Abstract
In this research, the writer analyzes the novel entitled Oryx and Crake written by Margaret Atwood. The writer focuses on the description of mother-fixation portrayed in two characters, Jimmy and Crake. The main purpose of this research is to describe the descriptions of mother-fixation in two male characters that appears in Oryx and Crake novel. To analyze the problem structurally, the writer uses psychology of literature approach since this research is focused on the description of mother-fixation portrayed in two characters which are Jimmy and Crake that appears in the Oryx and Crake novel and the writer also uses the theory of mother-fixation from Sigmund Freud. Meanwhile, the writer applies library research to collect the data and descriptive qualitative method to elaborate the data. There are several symptoms and characteristics of mother-fixation shown by the main characters, Jimmy and Crake. First, both of the characters show a similar phallic stage where they hate their own father. Jimmy hate his father because his father making his mother left home. Crake hate his father because he does not want to be reckless person like his father. Second, both characters develops doubt and fear toward their mother. Also, the characters show similar characteristics of mother-fixation but in different situation. First, they intend to have relationship with women resemble their mother. Second, they intend to have a relationship with older women. Third, they intend to have a relationship with women that could reject them as a whole.
