Abstract

This research uses a mixed methods research type. The researcher used the sampling technique purposive sampling and the sample used was one class, namely X BDP 1 at SMK Negeri 1 Kalianda. Data collection was carried out in two ways. Those are by distributing a questionnaire with 18 statements about using the Word Wall towards learning motivation and interviews consisted of five open-ended questions. The results of the research show an increase in the learning motivation of X BDP 1 students at SMK Negeri 1 Kalianda. Students experience increased learning motivation starting from intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and students got benefits of using Word Wall to increase learning motivation got a very good category of 98% to 87% of motivation level. However, using a Word Wall has challenges for students. This reinforced from the results, 14% the very low category in Word Wall requires a lot of money (data balance), and 27% the very low motivation level category in students prefer the use of other media such as books rather than Word Wall. 40% was categorized as having low motivation levels regarding unstable signals. 50% of the low category was students who are confused about using the Word Wall. It can be concluded that using of Word Wall can improve students learning motivation starting from intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and students got benefits of using Word Wall to learning English in class. Besides, the using of Word Wall also has challenges such as Word Wall requires a data balance, an unstable signal, students’ confusion in using the Word Wall, and not all students prefer using Word Wall as a learning media tool, especially English.
