Abstract

Novel as the literary work has the role as the media to deliver author’s opinion and messages toward certain phenomenon, one of them is social stratification. Problems occur when there is literary work that bring a lot of idea about social stratification and need to be identified by the reader in other to catch the whole message of the story inside the novel. Thus, the study entitled An Analysis of Social Class as Reflected in Kevin Kwan Crazy Rich Asian aimed to find the types of social class inside the Crazy Rich Asian novel by Kevin Kwan. In doing the analysis, the writer applied descriptive qualitative method and using sociological approach. Furthermore, the writer also conducted Thio’s theory (1986) which correlated to social esterification’s among society that divided into upper class, middle class, working and lower class. As the result of the research, it shows that the researcher found 15 data of social stratification divided into four types of them, there are: upper-upper class 10 data, lower-upper class 1 data, working class blue-collar workers 1 data, working class white collar workers 3 data.
