Abstract
Literature and psychology are two branches of science that study human soul, since in psychology, it analyzed human behaviors and its causes, while literature depicts human behavior. Regarding to that, the aim of this analysis is focusing in describing psychopathic disorder from the main character of Patrick Bateman from the novel of American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis. Further, in order to describe the psychopathic disorder of the character, this research is conducted by descriptive qualitative method and applying the theory of Hare. As the result of this research, the writer finds out that regarding to Hare’s theory of psychopath, Patrick Bateman is truly a psychopath since has the characteristics of psychopathic disorder which is found from the novel of American Psycho, they are; 1) high intelligent and verbal intelligent, 2) glibness or superficial charm, 3) pathological lying, 4) manipulative, 5) lack of remorse or guilt, 6) grandiose self-worth, 7) impulsivity and 8) antisocial.
