Abstract

This research discusses and describes the phrase or sentence containing of particularized conversational implicature used by the characters in Netflix’ On My Block TV series and then the meanings are explained. The researcher uses Grice (1975) theory about Implicature for analyzing the particularized conversational implicature. In conducting research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method to describe and identify the particularized conversational implicature, without using any quantitative method in the analysis. The data in this research are collected by watching the series and transcribes the dialogues. Then the selected data are analyzed one by one, by using the theory of implicature. The result of analysis are the researcher found 13 data. The result of analysis shows that the particularized conversational implicature is related to the context of american culture and language. This specific context makes the viewers understand the implied meaning.
