Abstract

In this research, the writer will discusses a novel by David Gerold, entitled The Martian Child. It is aimed to examine the issue of finding Hebephrenic Schizophrenia, it is shaped through disorganized speech and disorganized behavior in the novel. There are two main characters insides the novel discussed in this research, David Gerrold and Dennis. The focus of this research is to find out disorganized speech and disorganized behavior syndrome in David Gerrold The Martian Child. This thesis deals with Hebephrenic Schizophrenia, so the writer employs theories to anaylze the issue and used psychology as her approach to support her reaserch. The writer applied library research and descriptive qualitative methods to elaborate and to perform the data that have logic correlation to the problem statement. The data and the data source are in the forms of sentences and all narration inside the novel The Martian Child by David Gerrold. As the result of the analysis, the writer concluded that, Hebephrenic Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder that has the characters of our speech and behavior. Dennis is a child who suffered from schizophrenia syndrome. Dennis always thought if he comes from the planet Mars. He also always uses a belt made of iron and battery, he thinks if the planet Mars will be pulled back if he is not wearing a belt made of iron and battery.
