Abstract

Literary works such as drama, short story and poems are made not only to entertain the readers but also to educate them. Literary works that are established in the romanticism era for example, gives the readers knowledge about some historical events. Thus, based on the fact that there is a relation between history and literature, the writer analyzes the history, especially the dark side of industrial revolution in England through the famous selected poems by William Blake, London and Auguries of Innocence. In order to find out the answer of the research questions, this research conducts descriptive qualitative method. Further, the expressive approach and socio-historical concept is used to answer the research question about the dark side of Industrial Revolution in England. The writer also uses library research in order to collect the data and some references to write this final project. The result of the study shows that the author, William Blake tends to show the impact of industrial revolution from the social, political and economical aspects that happened in England through the figurative languages in his poems. The social aspect that is reflected from the poems represents the suffering of the society because of the capitalist. The capitalist who have the important role in developing the economical aspects also make the society in London getting poorer. As the result, the political aspect is the government who join with the capitalist did not paying attention to the society and they did not give labor rights and adequate salary so that many of societies become slaves and prostitutes.
