Abstract

Motivation may come from within or through other people’s influence. There are various factors to consider in teaching and learning, including learning motivation and students’ concentration both before and after participation in learning. When the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic has impacted negatively on all aspects, the government imposed PSBB (Large-Scale Social Restrictions) for saving all the area. In this situation, school learning activities are continued while keeping healthy to deal with the new normal era. This learning system went backs to normal before Covid-19 come. So students need more preparation. In this study, the researcher applied descriptive qualitative studies to investigate students’ motivation in speaking class during new normal era. The instruments used were questionnaires and interview. The total participant of this research were 32 tenth grade students at SMAN 1 Gedong Tataan Pesawaran. The questionnaire result shows that the total means score for intrsinsic motivation is 3.09, and extrinsic motivation is 2, 99. Which is same categorize a moderate degree level motivation. Then, the result of the interview shows that tenth grade students wants to be better at speaking English.
