Abstract

In this thesis, the author discusses the characters and characterization of the main character in the film The Black Phone by Scott Derrickson. This research focuses on the characters and characterization of the characters in the film The Black Phone. The main aim of this research is to describe the characters and characterization in the film The Black Phone. This research applies Burroway's theory of character and characterization to describe and analyze the main characters in the story. This research uses a structural approach and uses film study. This research applies qualitative descriptive methods in analyzing data to articulate problems precisely using words. The data source for this research is the film The Black Phone by Scott Derrickson, while the research data is in the form of images and filmscripts in the film. The results of the analysis show that there are six characters, namely Finney as a major character, a round character, and a dynamic character. Gwen is a static character and a minor character and Robin is a flat character. It was found that there were 4 characterizations of Finney as the main character. Finney's character is coward,, persistent, caring, aversion to violence, and clever.
