Abstract
This research focuses on the characterization analysis of the main character in the movie Purple Hearts (2022) directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum. The objective of this research is to find out the characterizations through Cassandra Salazar in the Movie. This research examines the main character, Cassandra Salazar or Cassie, and the way her environment, life struggles, and life journey affect her personality and background. The writer’s purpose for conducting this analysis is the desire to elaborate on the importance of characterization in the story, with the goal of facilitating understanding for readers who may have difficulty understanding the character aspects of the story. This study used the Characterization theory by Burroway’s (1992). The authors used descriptive qualitative design. The results of this study show that each of the 12 data points found in the movie can be categorized into different personalities such as Narcissistic, Hard worker, Argumentative Person, Sympathetic, and Talented person. This character analysis provides a deeper understanding of the main character, Cassie, in the movie Purple Hearts. It also illustrates a common problem today where many viewers have difficulty connecting with characters in movies due to a lack of understanding of their motivations, backgrounds, and feelings. This study is expected that this research can contribute to the development of literary study in character and characterization taken from the movie of Purple Hearts (2022). Therefore, this study is useful as a reference for research using descriptive qualitative methods.
