Abstract

The Effectiveness of Google Classroom as the Media in Teaching Reading Comprehension for Eleventh Grade Students at SMKN Padang Cermin Eicha Afriyuninda 17113069 Google Classroom application is one of the media used to fasilited learning process at SMKN Padang Cermin. the purposes of this research are : (1) The effect of Google Classroom in increasing students reading comprehension;(2) To find out students perceptions about the use of Google Classroom in learning English at SMKN Padang Cermin. Researcher used mix method to answer the research questions. The first research question was answered using a quantitative method, (control group pretest-posttest design) to confirm the significant improvement of students reading comprehension. and the second research questions was answered by using qualitative method to explore students perceptions toward google classroom. In this research 34 students of class XI TKJ A and 34 students of TKJ B at SMKN Padang Cermin participate as the sample of this research they are divided into experimental and control class and following pretest and posttest. More over the students were required to fill out the questionnaires related to 3 aspect : The perceived usefulness of using Google Classroom, the effectiveness of using Google Classroom in online learning, and the difficulties of students learning English through Google Classroom, there were participants who submitted their responses in the questionnaire. Research findings from this study indicate that online learning using Google Classroom helps to access materials and submit assignments. Based on the results of the independent sample t test, it is known that the final value of the experimental class is 82.54 and the final value of the control class is 74.69. The significance value is less than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). So it can be stated that there is a significant increase in student learning outcomes in the experimental group. While the p-value 0.000 is smaller than the t table at a significant level of 5%. From statistical calculation, pvalue is smaller than ttable. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H?) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This means that the influence of Google Classroom is quite effective in improving the English language of students at SMKN Padang Cermin.
