Abstract
Psychopathic personality disorder is known as an act that shows negative symptoms which possessed by someone who has mental issue or in other word, it is the attitude that attached to a psychopath. Further, related to the topic of psychopathic personality disorder, the writer through this research is interested in analyzing psychopathic personality disorder of Jacob Strane’s character in My Dark Vanessa novel by Elizabeth Kate Russell. Thus, the aim of this research paper is to describe the cause of psychopathic personality disorder and its symptoms as seen from the character of Jacob Strane in the novel. Here, the writer conducted qualitative research and applying theory of Glenn et al (2011) and Verstappen (2011) in order to describe the cause and the symptoms of psychopathic personality disorder of Jacob Strane. The findings indicate that Strane’s psychopathic personality disorder is caused by social character where he is having a rough childhood since he was raised by intimidating father and angry and careless mother. Furthermore, from the total of eight symptoms of psychopathic personality disorder that mentioned by Verstappen (2011), the writer only found six symptoms that are reflected by Jacob Strane in the novel. The symptoms that are found are: pathological lying, conning and manipulative, lack of remorse and guilty, poor behavioral controls, lack of realistic long-term goals and antisocial.
