Abstract

This research discusses the narrative structure of The Minds of Billy Milligan novel and Split film. The objective of this research is to reveal the narrative structure of the film and the novel and find the differences and similarities between them. In order to achieve the research objective, the writer applied qualitative method since the writer gave detailed description and explanation in the research supported by narrative structure theory by Victor Skhlovsky in fabula and syuzhet and using formalism as the approach of this research. The data sources are from both The Minds of Billy Milligan (1982) novel and Split (2016) film. After breaking down the narrative structures of both works based on fabula and syuzhet, the writer then compare them in order to find the differences and similarity of those two works. The analysis found that the differences in fabula and syuzhet that the novel explains all the details of events in the story while in the film there are missing sequence of events. While in the similarity the writer found that both novel and film are starting the story in the childhood time of the main character in the fabula and in syuzhet, both novel and film are starting the story with the issue of kidnap of three girls.
