Abstract
In this thesis, the researcher discusses about the Polynesian Myth as described in Disney’s animation movie Moana. The purpose of this research is to reveal the Polynesian Myth as described in Disney’s animation movie Moana which are described through some characters in Disney’s animation movie Moana 2016. In answering the formulated problem, the researcher uses a theory and an approach provided in literature review. In this research, the researcher implements Polynesian Myth, general characteristics of the Polynesian myth creation stories, and characteristics of the Polynesian Gods and Goddes as the theories. Next, the researcher uses Mythological approach to reveal the Polynesian myth as described in Disney’s animation movie Moana. Besides, this research applies descriptive qualitative method to describe the formulated problem clearly. As the result of the research, Polynesian Myth in Disney’s Animation Movie Moana (2016) which are described through some characters of the movie. The first is Maui’s Myth described through Maui character. The second is Namakaokahai’s Myth described through Moana and theOcean character. The third is Pele’s Myth described through Te Ka and Te Fiti character. And the last is Kakamora’s Myth described through Kakamora character. the depiction of those characters are different from the origin of Polynesian myth, because the director has their own reasons to make the movie more interesting to be watched such as target audiences and market demand.
