Abstract

This study was designed to analyze the military jargon in form of word formation by The Hurt Locker movie. Furthermore, this research is aimed to see the military jargon and the meaning, and word formation process in The Hurt Locker movie. The method of this research was qualitative by using descriptive analysis technique. Selected the data were analyzed by using Word Formation’s theory by Plag. However, the writer only focused on the level of meaning that consists of seven discourse features. Those features are topics, level of abbrevation, acronym, affixation, blending, clipping, compound and conversion. The result shows that there are 18 military jargons in The Hurt Locker movie that can be divided 7 types of jargon formation, they are: 7 abbreviation, 2 acronym, 3 affixation, 1 blending, 3 clipping, 1 compounding and 1 conversion. Generally, the writer found that abbreviation is the most dominant word formation process used of military jargon in The Hurt Locker movie.
