Abstract
This study aims to examine the effectiveness of digital storytelling to develop speaking skills of eleventh grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Terbanggi Besar. The research utilized a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative research approach. The sample of this research was MPLB 1 and PM 2 students. The sample consisted of 50 students, divided into two groups: an experimental group (25 students) and a control group (25 students). The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique. The study applies pre-test and post-test as instruments to assess students' speaking skills, focusing on fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and details. The experimental group received treatment using Task Based Learning with digital storytelling as media, while the control group was taught using traditional methods. Data were collected through tests and analyzed using SPSS version 22. The results indicated a significant improvement in the experimental group after the treatment. The average pre-test score for the experimental group was 57.82, which increased to 87.27 in the post-test. In contrast, the control group showed a smaller increase from an average pre-test score of 54.07 to 61.09 in the post-test. The significance value (0.000) indicates a significant difference in average scores between the experimental and control classes. The results support rejecting the null hypothesis (H0) in favor of the alternative hypothesis (Ha), showing that learning outcomes using digital storytelling are superior to conventional methods. In conclusion, digital storytelling has a significant effect on developing the speaking skills of eleventh grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Terbanggi Besar in the academic year 2022/2023. The findings suggest that digital storytelling is effective for developing students' speaking skills.
