Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the improvement of speaking skill of twelfth grade students at SMK N 1 Terbanggi Besar after being taught through picture series. This research is quantitative study with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The research subjects are the students of class XII OTKP 2 at SMKN 1 Terbanggi Besar that were selected purposively. The test of speaking was the instrument of this research. The researcher dignified the normality and reliability of the test to confirm the data was valid. To confirm the data was reliable the researcher was used inter-rater reliability. The data obtained were then analyzed using IBM SPSS version 29.00 which includes testing for normality and hypothesis testing based on the pre-test and post-test scores. The pre-test and post-test results show a significant difference. In the pre-test, the average students score was 62.62, with the lowest score at 36 and the highest at 80. The post-test results demonstrate an increase in the average students score to 76.62, with the lowest score at 68 and the highest at 96. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is an improvement of speaking skill of twelfth grade students at SMK N 1 Terbanggi Besar after being taught picture series.
