Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whether teaching reading using the Noveltoon application can improve students' reading comprehension in class X DKV 1 at SMK Negeri 1 Talang Padang. This research used a sample from 34 students of tenth grade consisting of 20 female students and 14 male students. This study was included as quantitative study with pre experimental group design. To collect data, this study used a reading test with narrative text in the form of multiple choice consisting of 40 questions. Then, data were analyzed through paired sample t-test in SPSS application to see students’ reading improvement after treatment..Based on research findings, teaching reading through narrative texts with the Noveltoon application can improve students' reading comprehension of English texts. In the previous exam results, only 14 students passed the KKM score with an average of 70.94. There was an increase in the post-test results, namely 33 students who obtained the KKM score with an average of 80.29. Therefore, students' reactions to learning are positive and effective. Based on the data results, it can be concluded that implementing teaching using the Noveltoon application can improve the reading comprehension of class X DKV 1 students at SMK Negeri 1 Talang Padang.
