Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whether the use of PBL can improve students' reading comprehension and to find out more about students' perception in using PBL in class XII of SMKN 1 Way Panji. This research uses a quantitative approach in a quasi-experimental design. This research instrument used 44 multiple-choice questions to measure students' reading comprehension in identifying the main idea, reference, inference, vocabulary, and specific information. It used 14 questionnaire items to measure students' perception of using PBL were distributed using Google Forms. This research shows that using PBL to teach report text can improve students' reading comprehension. In the pre-test results, there were only 21 students with an average category in the range of 40-59 while in the post-test results, there was an increase of 5 students with excellent category scores, 20 students with good categories, and 20 students with average categories. This research also provided data that showed the improvement of student scores on the five aspects of reading used in reading comprehension assessment: identifying the main idea, reference, inference, vocabulary, and specific information. In addition, this research showed a positive response from the students toward using PBL in learning English. Based on statistical analysis, there was a significant difference with Cronbach's Alpha
