Abstract

This study aims to determine the personality of the main character in the novel One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern (2013). The main character of the novel is Kitty Logan, who works as a journalist at a news agency called Etcetera. She is trying to restore her reputation, trust, and job through writing. In solving her problems, Kitty Logan's personality can be recognized through her id, ego, and superego. Meanwhile, this study uses a qualitative method that takes data from the novel One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern (2013). The data is taken in conversations, narrations, or paragraphs that show part of the theory used. This research uses the theory initiated by Sigmund Freud, namely the tripartite, one of psychology's branches. This research found that Kitty Logan's personality is selfish and ambitious through id, ego, and superego. Kitty Logan's id is more dominant than the other components that follow her survival instinct. Kitty Logan wants to restore her situation to be better and avoid ridicule from people who do not like her. Then, her ego realizes her wishes by using her reasoning as logical thinking. Meanwhile, her superego runs based on her conscience, which is influenced by the ethics prevailing in society. Therefore, these three components make Kitty Logan's personality known when solving her problems.
