Abstract

The research concerns analyzing racial bias among White American society experienced by Celeste Ng. In this study can increase public awareness about racial bias White American society delineated by Celeste Ng in “Little Fires Everywhere” novel. Racial bias is when you believe the attributes are characteristic of people with an appearance you characterize a race without sufficient evidance. Racial bias is still happening around us, explicit and implicit. This research is how racial bias is delineated by Celeste Ng in the novel Little Fires Everywhere. In this research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative analysis as the method of analyzing racial bias among White Americans. In this analysis, researchers use two types of data sources: Primary data sources and secondary data sources. The primary data is the text from the source novel Little Fires Everywhere. Namely information which is also an important factor in conducting research. The data source for this study consists of 352 pages in “ Little Fires Everywhere ” novel which was published in 2017. After the author has read the novel, there are sentences, dialogues and quotations that are the subject of this research. Secondary data are therefore supporting data derived from the novel Little Fires Everywhere, the biography of Celeste Ng, White American society and literature and journals related to previous study, and sociology of literature theory by Laurenson & Swingewood. There are two findings in this analysis and each of them has two forms, Celeste Ng potrayal on explicit racial bias namely, aware on personal racial bias, racial comparism and Celeste Ng potrayal on implicit racial bias namely, suspicious on other race, racial stereotypes. From the data analysis the writer finds that racial bias among White American society is delineated by Celeste Ng in the Little Fires Everywhere novel. In conclusion, the novel revealed racial bias from the conflict of characters, especially to other races or skin color.
