Abstract

ABSTRACT The Psychological Effects of Absent Father on The Character Katie in The Fathers & Daughters (2015) Movie Try Sasongko 18111087 This study aims to describe the psychological impact of fatherless as seen by the main character of Katie in the movie of Fathers and Daughters (2015). Fatherless means a condition when someone does not have close relationship with his father and loses the figure of father’s roles, whether because of divorce or death. Interestingly, there are some psychological impacts that are experienced by those who are grown up without the figure of father and through this research, the writer is interested in analysing the psychological impact of being fatherless that are depicted from the character of Katie. . In this research, the writer uses the qualitative method and applies two main theories, they are Metz’s theory (1992) that is used to take scenes which are related to the psychological impacts of absent father towards Katie character and Castetter’s theory (2020) that is conducted to explain the psychological impacts of absent father from the character of Katie. As the result of the findings, it indicates that the main character of Katie in the movie of Fathers and Daughters (2015)is experiencing psychological impacts due to the absence of her father during her childhood and those psychological impacts are: behavioral problems, promiscuity, drug and alcohol abuse and hardly to make relationship with the opposite sex.
