Abstract

This thesis is aimed to identify the types of Shadow appear and how the shadow of Josephine character as reflected in Mother, Mother Novel by Koren Zailckas. The writer applied Jung psychological approach and combine the theory of Collective Unconscious and the concept of Archetype, especially shadow archetype. Meanwhile, the main focus of this study is specifically analyzing the Shadow archetype inside the character of Josephine in Mother, Mother Novel. The writer used the descriptive qualitative method and library research in this study. The method assists the writer in describing the shadows that are reflected in Josephine's character and explaining the different types of shadows that appear in Josephine's character. Meanwhile, the data is taken from the novel Mother, Mother in the form of narration, statements, and sentences that are categorized as Josephine shadow and all types of Shadow. Furthermore, the writer gathered information from the Mother, Mother novel, which described the Shadow of Josephine's character and the various types of Shadow she experienced. After all the data are obtained and analyzed in the previous chapter the writer draws conclusion that Josephine character in the novel of Mother, Mother by Koren Zailckas (2013) clearly reflects the shadow archetype based on Jung’s theory. The shadow archetype is reflected through behavior and thoughts of Josephine itself or even other characters. The shadow is divided into three parts, which are personal shadow, collective shadow, and archetypal shadow.
