Abstract

The Stationery Shop is a novel written by Marjan Kamali. The main character is Roya. In 1953, conflict broke out as a result of a coup that would forever change the future of her country. In the midst of all the chaos, Roya was trapped in the massive demonstration and she witnessed all the horrific events. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a mental health condition triggered by a traumatic event. The purpose of this study is to identify the post-traumatic stress disorder raised by Roya. To enhance the examination of post-traumatic stress disorder, the writer utilizes the theory of Gerald C. Davison (2006) to analyze the symptoms, causes, and effects of post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, the American Psychiatric Association's theory in its publication Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Illness: DSM-5 was applied in this research study for more information and as a supporting theory on the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Disorder. The writer used qualitative research techniques to describe post-traumatic stress disorder. Moreover, the analysis presented in form of sentences and dialogues. The results of this study indicate that the cause of Roya experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is due to environmental causes. After experiencing a traumatic event, one symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder is shown by Roya which is Avoidance symptoms, the first is attempts to avoid distressing memories, thoughts, or feelings about or closely related to the traumatic event and the second is attempts to avoid external reminders (people, places, conversations). The last one is the effect of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Roya experienced Mind Change, Feeling Changes and Behavior Changes.
