Abstract

In this study, the writer discusses the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) experienced by Anna Fox in the novel The Woman in The Window by A.J. Finn. The primary purpose of this study is to find out the causes and analyze the impact that occurs by finding the symptoms experienced by Anna Fox. The writer develops a theoretical framework by discussing theories and approaches to solve the problem structurally. The writer applies PTSD theory to analyze the behavior data and character condition. The psychological approach is used in this research. The issues discussed in this study are limited to examining the novel's structure, which is focused on research covering themes, settings, and characters. This study focuses on the causes, symptoms, and impacts of PTSD on the main character as literary criticism. In addition, this analysis uses a qualitative descriptive method to describe the problem using words. From this research, three findings can be clarified as problem formulation. The first is that the writer finds the cause of Anna's PTSD based on environmental and psychological causes of the tragic events she experienced in the past that resulted in her losing her loved ones. The second finding is symptom re-experiencing, avoidance symptoms, mood and cognition, and arousal and activity. Her memories affect her psychology, and she tries to avoid the outside world, so she locks herself inside the house. The third finding of this study is the impact of the PTSD suffered by Anna based on physical, emotional, mental, behavioral, and spiritual aspects. PTSD experiences mood swings that can make her excessively anxious and have difficulty concentrating and remembering. In addition, the behavior change made her addicted to alcohol and isolated her from society. Keywords: Main Character, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Psychological Approach, The Woman in The Window
