Abstract

This thesis discusses a movie directed by Edgar Wright entitled “Last Night In Soho”. This movie tells a story about Ellie, who dreams of a woman named Sandie who lives in the 60s era and experiences women's exploitation by her manager. In this study, the writer analyzes women's exploitation experienced by the female characters in the movie. In this study, the writer applies the descriptive qualitative method. The data are taken from the movie pictures and the dialogue between the characters. The feminist approach is used in this thesis to highlight women's exploitation and is supported by the representation theory by Hall and the theory of semiotics film by Metz as tools to analyze the movie and expose code, sign, and symbol exposed by the movie. Women's exploitation theory is also used to find out the forms of exploitation experienced by the female character of this movie. The result of the analysis shows that there are four problems of women exploitation in Last Night In Soho movie experienced by the female characters. The types of women exploitation that occur are sexual exploitation, forced labor, slavery, and violence. This exploitation has an impact on their social life and also harms them both physically and mentally
