Abstract
Worldview is the result of the social condition which was faced by the subject or the author. The historical background and social fact are the reason behind the author’s worldview that was presented in the literary work. In accordance, the aim of this study is to find out how Josephine as the main character of Little Women novel presents the worldview of Louisa May Alcott. This study applies the genetic structuralism theory by Lucien Goldmann. Besides, this study uses a descriptive qualitative method to elaborate the life principle of the main character, in seeing marriage and family as the representation of Louisa May Alcott’s worldview in the novel entitled Little Women. The primary data source is Little Women novel written by Louisa May Alcott that was published in 1868. Therefore, secondary data is the supporting data taken from the literary books, and journals related to Little Women novel, Alcott’s biography, and previous studies. The study finds that life principle of the main female character who is Josephine is the embodiment of Louisa May Alcott’s worldview on her perspective to put her family as her priority and also her perspective that women have their freedom to determine their life path in marriage. Then, Alcott’s worldview also shows the reflection of the social condition around Alcott in the nineteenth century.
