Abstract

A Case Study in Selected Instagram Firna Rinta Afrilika 16111089 The development of social media encourages people to freely convey their ideas towards certain issue and it could represent certain meaning of social condition through the use of language used by those people. Thus, thesis aims to analyze types of language features used by female and male netizens in Trump’s instagram post and reveal its meaning. This research used descriptive qualitative method with library research which the data are in the form of written text. The primary data source is from Trump instagram post from 5th until 6th January 2021. This thesis uses language features theory by Lakoff and semantics approach by Geoffrey Leech The result of this research concludes that the most frequent language features used by female are hypercorrect grammar, super polite forms and emphatic stress which mean to show their satisfaction towards Trump leadership. Meanwhile, the most frequent language features used by male are emphatic stress, insults and commands which mean to show their disappointment towards Trump leadership
