Abstract

Bipolar disorder is formerly known as manic depression or manic-depression illness. This illness attacks the mental health of person which causes unexpected mood swings, activity levels, energy, concentration, and ability of carrying out daily activities. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the sufferer of bipolar disorder through the symptoms, cause, and also the effect of the sufferer as portrayed in All The Bright Places novel using Bipolar Disorder theory. This research used a qualitative descriptive method which enclosed library research with written word and characters’ behavior that can be observed. The primary data source is taken from All The Bright Places novel. This research used psychology of literature as the approach. This research used the theory of manic depression insanity by Emil Kraeplin in 1957 and also supported with DSM V theory by American Psychiatric Association. According to the analysis of the symptoms, the result of this research shows that Finch experienced depressive and manic episode experienced, and the Bipolar Disorder suffered by Finch is Bipolar II Disorder
