Abstract

ABSTRACT The Structural Analysis of Plot in Angie Thomas’s The Hate U Give Novel Nova Rika Arafaty 16111084 Understanding a novel means that we have to understand the structure of the novel itself. A Novel is a literary work formed in a narrative story. In every literary work, there must be roles that can make it proper. It has intrinsic elements and extrinsic elements. The plot is one of the intrinsic elements that have an important role in the story because without a plot, there is no story to be told. A plot is a story that contains a sequence of events. The purpose of this study is to know the actantial schemes in The Hate U Give novel by Angie Thomas. There is a question that the writer wants to find, that is how the elements of plot structure compose the plot of the story. In finding the answer to the question above, the first step of the research is to find the plot elements. After finding the plot elements, the writer makes a plot table to put every event from beginning to end. The next step is dividing the whole story in the novel into four event, each event is analyzed using actant by A.J Greimas.
