Abstract

Stereotype is known as an exaggerated belief that associated with a category that has function to justify our behaviour that correlated to that category. The phenomenon of stereotype is not only happened in the past, but still happens and exist until this recent day in the broader society as well as within many organizations around the world. Interestingly, many literary works also provide examples of the nature of stereotypes. Thus, through this research, the writer is interested in discussing stereotypes that can be found in Aladdin movie (2019) by Guy Ritchie. In doing the analysis, the writer applied descriptive qualitative method and using sociological approach. Furthermore, the writer also conducted Shaheen’s theory (2003) which concerns about stereotypes of Arab people that commonly depicted by Hollywood movies in such negative ways (presenting them in thousands of roles as the source of evil in world culture). As the result of the research, it shows that the stereotypes that can be seen in the Aladdin movie are: the social reality in Arab, Arab people who show violent attitude, the depiction of Arab women (in the way their dress, how they have no specific occupation and how they are depicted as belly dancers) and lastly, the stereotype also shows how Arab is shown as the villain.
