Abstract

ABSTRACT Analysis of Animus as seen in Rigg’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Mairinda Larassati Ayuningrum 15111506 The common differences among men and women were originally determined by their genetics and another thing that makes them different is their personality. Regarding to that, there is a phenomenon where woman shows her inner masculine side which in the literary terms known as Animus, a personal complex and an archetypal image. Thus, related to the phenomenon of animus, the writer is interested in discussing animus personalities on female characters found in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children novel By Riggs Ransom. Further, in conducting the research, the writer applied Jung theory of animus and proposed descriptive method. As the result of the analysis, the writer found that there are three female characters who possessed animus personality in the novel, they are: Bronwyn Bruntley, Emma Bloom and Miss Peregrine. On each of the character shows different act of animus personality, such Bronwyn, she is showing more “the man of power” since she has both physical strength and strength of will. As for Emma, she possessed an animus personality of “the man of power” which is then developed into “the man of meaning”. Lastly, Miss Peregrine who only shows “the man of meaning” since she is the wisest and the only adult who take care of the peculiar children
