Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the use of metaphor on environmental issues in The Jakarta Post newspaper and Inside Indonesia newspaper in order to find out the type of metaphor than describe the contextual meaning in each metaphor and give the reason why the data are categorize environmental issues. The analysis was carried out based on theory of Lakoff and Johnson (1980) metaphor better known as the conceptual metaphor theory. They divided the metaphor into three types namely: structural metaphors, ontological metaphors, and orientation metaphors. The articles of The Jakarta Post newspaper and Inside Indonesia newspaper which were published in October 1, 2018 – October 31, 2019 become the unit of analysis. The result of this study shows that the dominant metaphors which are used in the headlines and content are structural and ontological metaphors. Based on the data obtained there are 27 data findings which contain 11 structural metaphor, 12 ontological metaphors, and 3 orientational metaphor. The finding proven that the structural metaphor and ontological metaphor is the most metaphor often found.
