Abstract

This research is conducted to explain and reveal philosophical issue especially in existentialism through the characters in House Of Leaves novel by Mark Z. Danielewski’s. In existentialism, there are two type point of view which are being in itself and being for itself. In this research, the researcher uses philosopical approach and existentialism theory by Jean Paul Sarte (1946). This research uses qualitative research as the method. It is to explain the kind of characteristics within the characters Johnny Truant Danielewski’s House Of Leaves. Furthermore, the researcher gains the data by collecting the data in House Of Leaves novel by Danielewski and analyzing the data qualitatively by using Jean Paul Sarte theory of existentialism which described on characters. Based on the result of the data analysis, the researcher reveals there are two kind characteristics to identify existentialism based one Being and Nothingness from Jean Paul Sarte they are: being in itself and being for itself which is describe by character Jhonny Truant in Mark Z.Danielewski’s House of Leaves Novel.
