Abstract

This research is conducted in order to disclose liberal feminism value in the main female character of Battle of the Sexes movie named Billie Jean King who is a professional woman tennis player. The writer studied Battle of the Sexes movie and applied cinematography approach and liberal feminism theory. The writer applies library research and descriptive qualitative as the method in this research. The method helps the writer to explain the characteristics of Billie Jean King and liberal feminism value in Billie Jean King character through her characteristic. Furthermore, the writer gains the data by collecting it in Battle of the Sexes movie and analyzes it by using Rosemarie Putnam Tong’s liberal feminism theory. Based on the result of the data analysis, the writer reveals six characteristics of Billie Jean King, they are: talented, critical, brave, confident, ambitious and independent. Moreover, the writer also found the liberal feminism values in Billie Jean character through her characteristics, they are: equal opportunity in economy, equal liberty and equal education.
