Abstract

This research discuss about the existence of discrimination toward black people as seen in Richard Wright’s Native Son. This contains the problem of discrimination that suffered by the main character. Discrimination occurs in an area called Black Belt. In this research there are one aspect and four types of discrimnation in the novel. For the aspect only social discrimination aspect and for the types there are harassment, victimization, direct discrimination, and indirect discrimination. Those kinds of discrimination occur toward the main character in the novel. In analyzing this object, the writer uses sociological approach and theory of discrimination. The writer also uses the qualitative method. Data in the analysis are the aspect and the types of discrimination use the qualitative method to help the writer to interpret and explain the data. The result of this research, show the the aspect discrimination that is social discrimination. Then, for the types of discrimination in this novel there are four types such as harassment, victimization, direct discrimination, and indirect discrimination. The most common discrimination that happend in this novel is social discrimination.
