Abstract

This thesis discusses a novel by Ransom Riggs entitled Miss Peregrine Home for Peculiar Children. It is aimed to identify the stages of being hero or Hero’s Journey through the character of Jacob Portman. Specifically, the purpose of this research is to know what are the stages of being hero as seen in Jacob Portman in Miss Peregrine Home for Peculiar Children novel. The writer applies narrative structure analysis approach and Hero’s Journey theory by Joseph Campbell. The theorist devides Hero’s Journey into three forms are the Separation, The Initiation, and The Return. Each of topics has different sub topics. The data of this research are based on the narration and dialogue inside the novel. This research was conducted by libraryresearch and qualitative method.The result of this analysis shows all of the stages of Hero’s Journey theory, they are The Separation, The Initiation, The Return are portrayed inside the novel.Hero’s Journeytheory of Joseph Campbell areclearly described inside of the novel.
